WORLD OF HIBERNIA MAGAZINE
Title: Art Director
Designed the logo and overall template from cover to inside pages; create illustrations and photography (no budget to outsource on this one); oversee budgets, production and printing.
You wouldn't know it from looking at this high-end, glossy, Irish-American publication that won an Ozzy Award for Best New Magazine Design, but as Art Director, I was one of only 4 on the staff. Talk about a skeleton crew! We worked tirelessly til the wee hours on shoe-string budgets. We had to be extremely clever when it came to art and photography for covers and layouts. We all wore multiple hats and did what we had to do to make this a winning publication.

The "Legends" article featured Irish Americans who participated in the Olympics. The addition of Jim Thorpe surprised many who had thought he was only Native American. His father is, in fact, of Irish descent.

Because of our tight budget, I often created and photographed my own illustrations, like this one above. I stained paper with tea and then wrote out letters based on text in the article and photographed the collage which added depth and texture to the page.
